WISE COUNTY, Va. (WJHL)- UPDATE 9/10/2019
New details have been released regarding the unidentified body found in Wise County, Virginia.

According to a release from the Wise County Sheriff’s Office, Wise County Central Dispatch received a call Sunday from a man saying he was going to kill his girlfriend at the Inman Village Apartments in Appalachia around 12:30 a.m.

The release also says the caller made threats to harm law enforcement, and they had 30 minutes to respond before the murder.

The sheriff’s office, aided by Appalachia police, Big Stone Gap police and Norton police responded to the apartments.

At the time, law enforcement had no name, address or further information. The call had come through an internet-based system that couldn’t be linked to a person.

One round of ammunition was found in the area of the apartment complex, but it could not be determined where the shot came from.

Wise County authorities, with help from the U.S. Marshals, were able to get a callback number to the man.

The release says negotiators made several attempts to speak to him, but he was sporadic and gave little information while law enforcement continued to search the complex.

Around 10:00 a.m., dispatch received a call of a deceased man at an apartment in Inman Village.

Authorities arrived and found the man dead from a gunshot wound.

The two incidents have still not been confirmed to be related to one another.

The investigation is still ongoing.
