(WYMT) - A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 8 p.m. Tuesday night until 1 p.m. Wednesday for Kentucky counties, 7 p.m. for Virginia counties.
Tonight and Tomorrow
Do not travel tonight if you do not have to. Scattered snow showers are likely tonight. Since the ground and roads have had a little time to get colder, we could see some slick spots and some light snow accumulations as we head into the late evening and early morning hours on Wednesday. Lows will drop into the upper 20s. Snow totals could range from a half inch to two inches throughout the region.
Snow showers will still be here by the time we wake up, so the morning commute could be messy. Avoid travel tomorrow morning if possible. Highs will get into the mid 30s and snow should taper off by the afternoon.
From Thursday onward, it looks like we have the chance for several potential systems to affect us here in the mountains. Our next best shot of some snow comes late Thursday and early Friday. Models continue to trend drier with this system, so we will keep an eye on it.
We're still trying to pin down the potential weekend system, which is the talk of the town right now. We know there are a lot of models floating around out there showing some pretty crazy totals, but it is still way too early to make an accurate forecast. The data continues to evolve with every run.
Don't worry, we'll be keeping you posted as we get closer.
