The Pike County Superintendent is investigating an altercation that took place during a middle school basketball game Thursday at Phelps High School.

The superintendent says they are still looking into what happened at the Phelps versus Belfry 8th grade boys basketball game.

"We did have one individual, an adult, go to the E.R.. I met with that individual and I think every one is ok. No one is harmed," says Reed Adkins, Superintendent of Pike County Schools.

Adkins says there will be consequences.

"I will say there will be penalties handed down. We certainly will not tolerate this kind of behavior in our school system," says Adkins.

Adkins, a former grade school basketball coach, says he has never had to deal with an incident like this before.

"It's a real unfortunate situation. We don't want these types of things going on in our school system," says Akins.

The superintendent says they will continue to investigate.

Adkins says they have been in contact with the school's board attorney as they try to get to the bottom of the incident.
