According to Scott Lockard, Public Health Director of Kentucky River District Health Department, the test in Perry County Governor Beshear initially reported as positive in fact came back negative.

"What happened today in this process, is we had not received any notification until the governor had already went on air. Then right as he was going on air, I received notification that this was pending and so evidently the governor was provided miss information that this test was positive when in fact it was still pending," said Lockard.

Lockard says once a COVID-19 test is processed at a state lab, local public health officials are notified before Governor Beshear gives his daily news conference.

"After further consultation with the state health department lab we have now determined that the result is negative," Lockard said.

Lockard said today there was unfortunately a mistake as the state lab is processing more tests.

“The things we’re seeing right now is that the quantity of testing that they are seeing has picked up dramatically so sometimes mistakes can happen," said Lockard.

Lockard also told WYMT if there is a positive case in Perry County, he will be notified and will work with local officials to make sure everyone is informed.
