University of the Cumberlands starts ROTC program

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. (WYMT) - Officials at the University of the Cumberlands say the university is starting an ROTC program.

Students enrolled in the program will get a $500 a year scholarship, in addition to getting their textbooks for free, through the university's loan program.

Student cadets will also graduate with a minor in military science.

"It's an exciting program, we're glad to have it back here at Cumberlands after a few years of it not being around. It seems like students, current students, incoming students, transfers, they're really excited about it," says Clint Davis, Coordinator of Transfer and Military Recruitment.

The $500 scholarship can be stacked on any other scholarships students receive.

The program will start this fall and will coincide with the ROTC at Eastern Kentucky University.

School officials say details are still being finalized on how to register for the classes, but will be available soon.
