Smoke alarms recalled due to risk of not activating properly

(WYMT) - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission released a recall for smoke alarms.

The battery-powered smoke and fire alarms, made by Universal Security Instruments, recalled the devices on July 10.

The smoke alarms can have a misaligned internal switch, causing the alarms to not activate properly. This poses a risk of failure to alert people to a fire.

About 180,000 units have been recalled. Model numbers are MI3050S or MI3050SB.

The models were sold between July 2015 and December 2016.
