WHITLEY COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - Police in southern Kentucky are searching for a driver who fired a shot at tractor trailer driver.

The road rage incident happened Tuesday night in Whitley County in the northbound lanes of I-75. A truck driver called police and told them someone assaulted him.

Most of the exchange happened at the Kentucky-Tennessee Welcome Center, but the ordeal started south of there. At some point, one of the people involved pulled a gun.

"Had a pistol and he began to pistol whip him. The gun went off. And shot through the cab," Sheriff Colan Harrell described.

The suspect is thought to be in a maroon Ford Taurus. Police say the driver may have been traveling through Tennessee and Kentucky late Tuesday afternoon into the evening hours.

“He had dreadlocks and the letter “L” tattooed on his neck, in the style of the University of Louisville,” the Sheriff said.

Police say the local ambulance service treated the truck driver for his injuries.
