Thacker Memorial hosts annual Veterans Day event
Veterans were celebrated at Annie E. Young Cemetery Monday for Thacker Memorial's Veterans Day event.
The event, which has been hosted at the cemetery from more than 30 years, brought local leaders and veterans together to hear from speaker Dr. Lee Watts, Chaplain at the Kentucky State Capitol.
Watts spoke to those in attendance for his third consecutive year, talking about the blessing of living in a country where people are allowed freedoms that they often take for granted.
"I think it's important that we remember. So often it's so easy to forget," Watts said. "We need to constantly remember and remind the next generation of the price that was paid by the previous one."
Some of the members of that next generation were present at the event. Shelby Valley High School's cheerleaders gathered to place flags on the graves of men and women who served the country.
