A man was seriously injured Thursday night when his car ran off the road and into a house.

It happened just off U.S. 25 in Whitley County.

We're told a car was heading down the busy road when, for some reason, he ran off the road and crashed into a house.

Matthew Powers was inside about to go to sleep Thursday night when he says he heard a loud boom and crash.

He walked outside to see a car against his house and a man slumped over the steering wheel.

Police say the man may have had a medical issue and lost control.

They say the car went airborne, before hitting and then Powers' home.

"We had at least 20 people in the yard, paramedics people checking him out. Had to pry the door open and get the guy out. Got him on a stretcher and took him to Jellico. I hope he is okay," said Powers.

Officers are still not sure why the driver ran off the road.

Police say the driver is Mark Chambers of Knoxville, Tennessee.

He is at UK Hospital with what police call life threatening injuries.
