(WYMT) - It's nice to see sunshine across the mountains this afternoon, even with the cold temperatures. As we head into the overnight hours, clouds will slowly mix back into the area. This will be due to our next incoming system which will impact some as early as Thursday morning.
As mentioned above, cloud cover will slowly work back into the mountains. I do think we will stay partly cloudy for the majority of the night. That will allow for some spots to drop down into the lower 20s or even upper teens. An average low temperature of 23 degrees is expected.
The next system will impact the mountains for some spots by Thursday morning. The higher resolution models like the idea of some light rain early in the morning. Temperatures will quickly warm up into the mid 40s for highs on Thursday with a mix of sun and clouds through the midday. By the afternoon, cloud cover will become denser and rain chances will increase Thursday evening and into the overnight hours. Those rain chances on Thursday night will increase to 60%.
Friday looks to be soggy for much of the day with rain chances expected to reach 70%. Highs on Friday will soar into the mid-50s due to a southwesterly wind throughout the day.
Soggy conditions will continue on Saturday as well. Despite warmer temperatures with highs in the lower 60s, there is still an 80% chance of rain on Saturday across Eastern Kentucky. If you are hoping for a dry weekend, this is not the weekend for you.
Despite a few morning showers on Sunday, clouds will begin to clear and the conditions will look better and better throughout the day on Sunday. Highs on Sunday will reach the lower 60s with decreasing clouds throughout the day. Yes, that is just one system we just talked about.
Our next system will actually arrive sometime late Monday and go into Tuesday and possibly Wednesday. This will be the system to turn things back to colder weather. However, models do not agree on the timing at this time. We will come back to this system a little bit later in the week.
