Summer heat continues, cranks up for the weekend

HAZARD, Ky (WYMT) - We had a few stray showers drift through overnight and a few could be possible at times today as well.

Today and Tonight
Our old friend fog will be around again this morning, so take it easy out there. There could also be a few clouds in some areas this morning, but they shouldn't last long. As mentioned above, I can't rule out a stray shower today, but most should stay dry.

By the end of the day, look for sunny skies and hot conditions with highs climbing back into the mid to upper 80s.

We'll see mostly clear skies tonight with more fog late. Lows drop into the mid-60s.

Extended Forecast
The next few days remind me of a song that I remember listening to growing up.

One line of lyrics sum up the weekend and the first couple of days next week well:

"It's too hot, too hot, gotta run for shelter, gotta run for shade."

This could end up being one of the hottest weekends of the summer, which is about right, because August is usually one of the hotter months of the year here in the mountains.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday feature mostly sunny skies. There is a slight chance for a shower or storm on Sunday. Daytime highs will be close to 90 on Friday and in the low 90s on Saturday and Sunday. When you factor in the heat index, it could feel like 100 or better, so remember to stay hydrated, limit your time outside and wear that sunscreen! Overnight lows will drop to around 70.

Some scattered chances for rain return to start the new work and school week. Highs stay close to 90 for Monday and Tuesday.
