MANCHESTER, Ky. (WYMT) - One Clay County High School student received special recognition from Governor Matt Bevin.
When Trevor Samples heard about the shooting at Marshall County High School, he felt like he had to do something. Samples works at a T-shirt shop so he started making shirts that had "Marshall Strong" on them.
Marshall County is more than 300 miles away from Samples but he said that did not matter.
"After I heard about the shooting I thought I should do something about it and try to bring some encouragement," said Samples.
Governor Bevin made a video to present the acclimation to Samples and it aired at an awards ceremony.
The recognition was a complete surprise to the student.
Governor Bevin often ends videos with "We are Kentucky" to represent our unity as a state which is why Samples received the "We are Kentucky" acclimation.
