Student and trooper become best friends after Trooper Island visit

KNOTT COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - Recently students in the 5th grade at Cordia School in Knott County wrote to their heroes after they learned about 9/11. One student, Burley Arrowood, decided his hero was Trooper Jody Sims with Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard.

10-year-old Burley and Trooper Sims became best of friends during the summer after they met at Trooper Island.

The two reunited in the classroom recently so Burley could hand deliver the letter to Trooper Sims.

"He actually read the letter in front of the class to me so that was to say an honor and a thrill and it's just one of those situations in a career and just in a life," said Sims.

Part of the letter reads:
"You really helped me learn about the kind of person I want to be. I haven't gotten in trouble since meeting you."
