Stranger donates kidney to former UK coach Billy Gillispie; 'Everything went great'
A woman who came forward when she learned that former Billy Gillispie needed a kidney transplant is out of surgery.
Ericka Downey tweeted that 'everything went great' after the surgery Tuesday afternoon.
Downey and Gillispie were at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota Tuesday for the transplant procedure.
Downey is a mother of two and the wife of a basketball coach at Northeastern State University in Oklahoma. She found out she was a match to Gillispie in February. The two then met for the first time in late March.
"I know that I'm led through this process by my faith and if you're doing it for the right reasons, I really feel like all these things will be taken care of," said Downey.
