Southwest Virginia Sonic restaurant impacted by data breach, lawsuit claims

(WJHL) - A lawsuit claims that two Tri-Cities area Sonic Drive-In locations were among hundreds affected by a 2017 customer data breach.

According to the class actions case, the breach targeted Sonic restaurants on Fort Henry Drive in Kingsport and Commonwealth Drive in Norton.

The lawsuit says the data breach happened back in 2017 when a cyber attack targeted point of sale systems at Sonic locations in an attempt to steal customer credit card information. Customers who paid with a card at 325 impacted locations between April 7, 2017 and October 28, 2017 may have had their information compromised, the suit claims.

Although a settlement has been reached, Sonic denies all claims made in the suit.
