Soggy Friday on the way, snowflakes possible tonight

HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) - The rain is back on this Friday and it's going to usher some colder air in with it.

Today and Tonight
We'll start the day with showers that will increase in coverage throughout the morning and into the early afternoon hours. Temps will briefly climb before starting to fall later in the day. Most locations will be in the low to mid-40s by late this afternoon.

If you're heading out to some high school football playoff action tonight, the rain chances should become more scattered by then. It's still going to be chilly, so keep the rain gear handy and bundle up.

Tonight, the chances for scattered showers continue. The later into the night we get, and the more the temperatures drop, some of those showers could become snow showers before ending in flurries late. No accumulation is expected, thanks to a warm ground. Lows will eventually fall into the upper 20s by Saturday morning.

There is a Freeze Warning in effect from midnight tonight through noon on Saturday for Lee and Wise County in Virginia and Claiborne and Campbell County in Tennessee.

This Weekend
After the flurries end Saturday morning, skies will clear by the afternoon. It will stay cold, even with the sunshine. Highs will only top out in the mid to upper 30s. Under clear skies, most locations will drop into the low to mid-20s Saturday night.

After a frigid start Sunday morning, your Veteran's Day will warm up a little, getting into the upper 40s under sunny skies. Overnight lows fall into the mid to upper 30s.

Extended Forecast
Next week is going to be interesting, to say the least. Even though we're still only a few days out from our early week system, the models are still trying to pin things down.

Here's what I'm confident enough to tell you: After starting off Monday dry, rain chances will move into the forecast by the afternoon and evening hours. Temperatures will be in the upper 40s and close to 50 on Monday afternoon. After that, I can tell you it will be colder for Tuesday and Wednesday.

The moisture will be around Monday night and Tuesday. Temperatures will play a huge role on what we see. Hopefully, things will get a little more clear this weekend and we can give you a better idea of what we're looking at.
