A Letcher County shooting case is now in the hands of a grand jury.
Police said Bobby Combs met up with two men who thought Combs was bringing them marijuana. Instead, the men claim he pulled out a shotgun and demanded $50.
That is when one of the other men pulled out a pistol and Combs reportedly started shooting at them.
Combs faces assault, robbery and drug charges. The grand jury will decide whether to indict him.
Update 1/7/20, 4:00 p.m.
We now know the name of a shooting and robbery suspect arrested in Letcher County Monday night.
According to Kentucky State Police, 20-year-old Bobby Combs, of Whitesburg, shot two men during a drug deal gone wrong.
It all happened just after 7:00 p.m. on Racetrack Hollow in Isom.
Two men were trying to buy $50 worth of marijuana from Combs. When they arrived, Combs pulled out a shotgun and demanded their money.
Instead of handing Combs their money, troopers said, one of the men drew a pistol in self-defense.
The men told troopers that Combs began firing, injuring the two as they fled.
Troopers said they found Combs around 10:45 p.m. that night on Tipple Lane.
On the way to the jail, Combs told troopers he was in possession of several other drugs - including Suboxone and Neurontin.
Combs now faces multiple charges, including first-degree assault, first-degree robbery and several drug charges.
He was taken to the Laurel County Jail.
Kentucky State Police responded to a shooting Monday evening in the Isom community of Letcher County.
Police say three men got into an altercation when a shotgun was fired.
Two of the men are being treated for non-life threatening injuries.
After the incident, police had to search for the third man, who left the scene.
The cause of the fight is not known at this time.
Not many details have been released, but we’re told the man was arrested overnight.
