Sheriffs Department looking for stolen excavator

MARTIN, Ky. (WYMT) - Deputies with the Floyd County Sheriffs Department are searching for a stolen excavator.

"I worked until ten o clock at night. I left and went home, came back the next morning and it was gone," said owner of the excavator Austin Branham.

In a post on their Facebook page, deputies say someone stole a 2005 CAT 303CR mini excavator from Warco Straight in Martin on September 4th.

Sergeant Kevin Shepherd with the Floyd County Sheriff's Department said it is likely drivers did not pay much attention to people moving the excavator at the time it was stolen.

"They're just used to construction work and they're busy about going about their own business and just driving they don't pay much attention to what's going on," said Shepherd.

The owner of the excavator, Austin Branham, said he recently started his own business and buying the machinery was his first big investment.

"I had to use other people's equipment before, and rent. I finally end up getting one and, it kind of puts a hurt on ya," said Branham.

Branham said the excavator is worth $15,000. He only had it for close to one month.

"I'm twenty years old trying to start a business so $15,000 is a pretty big hit," said Branham.

There is a $2,000 reward for information leading to the return of the excavator.

If you know where the excavator is call 606-259-6218 or 606-447-3340.

Branham and his family said even if someone parks the excavator somewhere and anonymously gives the location, that will do.
