LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - UPDATE: Laurel Sheriff John Root said the investigation will be presented to the next term of the Laurel County Grand Jury for consideration.

A man is in intensive care after a shooting Saturday morning.

Laurel County Sheriff's deputies said just after midnight a scuffle took place in the AMVETS parking lot near London.

Deputies said the victim, Donnie Mabe, 69, walked into the Baptist Healthcare hospital in Corbin before being taken to UK Medical Center. They said he is currently in intensive care.

They said the other man involved was William Helton of Corbin called 911 to let them know he thought he shot someone in the AMVETS parking lot.

Deputies said one round was shot from a derringer, which is what injured Mabe.

The shooting is still under investigation.
