BARBOURVILLE, Ky. (WYMT) - The Knox County Sheriff's Department says it responded to an accident around 4:30 p.m. on December 3rd.
The accident occurred on Highway 25E northbound near the intersection with Highway 11 outside of Barbourville, involving a Chevy Suburban which collided with a JB Hunt tractor-trailer.
Before emergency services arrived a group from the Department of Corrections arrived and administered first aid to those injured. Both victims suffered serious injuries.
One, a woman, was stabilized and taken to Barbourville Appalachian Regional Healthcare by Knox County EMS before being flown to the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.
The man was taken by EMS to Baptist Hospital in Corbin for treatment of his injuries.
During the incident, the northbound lane was shut down and traffic was controlled by the Barbourville Fire Department.
While no one was cited at the scene, the Knox County Sheriff's Office is continuing to investigate the crash.
