(WYMT) - Showers and storms are likely as we head into the evening hours of Father's Day. The northwest half of our viewing area is in a slight risk (2/5) for severe weather this evening. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for some counties until 11 p.m.
Scattered thunderstorms will begin to develop in the afternoon hours throughout the region. A few of those storms could be on the strong to severe side at times. I would not cancel any outdoor plans, but the earlier the better. You definitely want the WYMT Weather App this evening.
With tonight's storms, we are expecting gusty winds and heavy rainfall. Small hail cannot be ruled out as well. If you are outside and hear thunder or see lightning, head inside right away!
Storms will continue into the overnight hours as well with another line of storms marching towards Eastern Kentucky. The line overnight will weaken as it moves east.
Sadly the new week is not looking the best.
We increase those rain chances going into your Monday and continue those throughout the entire work week. Highs remain in the upper 70s to lower 80s throughout the week with overnight lows in the mid to upper 60s.
Overall just keep your rain gear handy throughout the week. Sunday through Tuesday has a chance for strong storms.
