According to the Southern Water and Sewer District, several people in the Estill and Wayland communities of Floyd County are without water.

“The affected service area right now is right outside of Wayland. It's the part of Wayland area, Estill Bottom, Steel Creek, and Mill Creek,” said Special Projects Manager for Utilities Management Group Grondall Potter.

A Facebook post from Southern Water and Sewer District said a leak located in a nearby creek caused the outage.

“The guys right now are digging, were just trying to be safe and do it as efficiently as possible,” said Potter.

In the meantime, the Wayland Volunteer Fire Department is giving out clean water at the fire station.

The water was provided by the Floyd County Fiscal Court.

“We usually have quite a few people come out and get water. Last time this happened, which has been within the last year, we gave out over three pallets of water,” said Assistant Fire Chief Brent Little.

The water company is hoping the outage will be fixed by Wednesday night.
