Update 3:15 p.m. Saturday

Officials with Kentucky Transportation District 12 say all lanes are back open after a salt truck crashed.

Original Story:

Officials with Kentucky Transportation District 12 say an 18-wheeler carrying rock salt to Virginia jackknifed and veered into the northbound lanes of US 23 Saturday morning.

It overturned and spilled a load of salt onto the roadway and median.

For now, the passing lane is open but both lanes will eventually be closed once the wrecker arrives to pick up the semi truck.

Officials say the median is not accessible to drivers as it is covered in salt.

Drivers should consider taking KY 321 until they get past Paintsville. Those who stay on US 23 may not get through for a few hours.

Officials say no other cars were involved and no injuries have been reported at this time.
