PRESTONSBURG, Ky. (WYMT) - Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes made a stop in Prestonsburg Tuesday to kick off the second annual Commonwealth of Kentucky Bowl.
The Commonwealth of Kentucky Bowl is a statewide food drive that raised over 200,000 meals last year feeding over 2,300 people.
Kentucky Association of Food Banks Executive Director Tamara Sandberg says one in five Kentuckians do not know where their next meal will come from.
She also said the statistics for children are even higher.
"Almost 1 in 3 kids in Kentucky live in a household where somebody is having to go without food. Often times the school meal is the only place where kids get food. The summer meal programs help in the summertime, but many families turn to food banks to help put food on the table," explained Sandberg. "This Commonwealth of Kentucky Bowl will help God's Pantry Food Bank and all their partners will help ensure that no kid goes to bed hungry."
