HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) - Thursday was the first day of the fifth annual Perry County Fair. For the first time, there will be a sea lion show. Sea lions Zoey and Sierra will be doing tricks, including dancing, back flips and balancing balls on their noses.
"They're good swimmers, I know that. And they're real cute," said Evan Stacy as he watched the sea lions.
The owners of the sea lions travel across the country performing with their sea lions. During their show, they educate the audience on the importance of recycling.
"A lot of sea lions right now they're not in good shape," said owner Mirsol Earheart.
Earheart went on to say that when there is plastic in the ocean sea lions cannot live a full, healthy life.
One of the sea lions in the show is a rescue from the San Diego Zoo. She had a bad eye condition, which the owners now medicate.
"They eat all day. They can sleep. They have doctors and medications and all the care we can do for them we do," said Earheart.
The sea lions will perform every day of the fair at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Children will also have the opportunity to take pictures with the sea lions after each show at the Perry County Park.
