WHITESBURG, Ky. (WYMT)- Construction workers officially began renovations on the Historic Daniel Boone Hotel in Whitesburg.
"Right now we are in stage one, which is the stabilization, the cleanup, putting a new roof on the building," said Whitesburg Mayor James Craft.
Stage one of renovations is expected to last six months.
"Phase two will occur after that which will be the renovation of it, and that's the most exciting part," said Craft.
The old hotel has been abandoned for close to 30 years. Craft said the building itself is close to 100 years old.
"It's a place for people who come here to visit and for them to stay overnight, we don't have that now," said Craft.
When the project is complete, the building will be a fully functioning hotel.
