(WYMT) - Our Wednesday has been filled with cloud cover and scattered rain chances. As we head into the overnight hours, we will hold onto a few rain chances. Most of those rain chances will be early in the evening, before we look at partly cloudy skies with low temperatures in the mid-30s.
Thursday will start off with partly cloudy skies but our attention will turn to our next system. That next system will actually stem from the low pressure system to our south.
Afternoon highs will climb into the lower 50s with increasing clouds by the afternoon hours. As we head into Thursday evening, rain chances will begin to increase as a developing low pressure system works into Kentucky. That low will keep rain chances at 50% overnight Thursday with lows in the lower 40s.
Throughout the day on Friday, temperatures will actually cool off and the rain chances will increase. Sometime in the morning, temperatures should reach the upper 40s. However, as rain chances increase, we will see temperatures begin to fall as the low-pressure system develops.
Rain chances will increase to 80% on Friday with the bulk of the rain in the morning and early afternoon hours. For those headed to a second round high school football playoff game, you will want to dress warm and bring the rain gear. Temperatures will be the lower 40s with the best rain chances still in southeastern Kentucky. The overall rain chance for Friday night football looks to be at 40%.
The bulk of the activity will clear out for Friday night but a little bit of leftover moisture will stick around late Friday night and into early Sunday morning. In fact, with overnight lows dropping down into the upper 20s to lower 30s, a few snowflakes will be possible Saturday morning. Those chances look to be in the higher elevations (in southeastern Kentucky).
Highs on Saturday will remain cold with readings in the upper 30s to lower 40s. Mostly sunny skies will be the main story by the afternoon hours.
Things will not change too much on Sunday. Mostly sunny skies will continue with cool temperatures. Highs on Sunday will reach the upper 40s to lower 50s before we focus on a few systems next week.
