HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) - Our hot days are getting ready to come to an end for a while, thanks to a cold front that will make its way toward the mountains today.
Today and Tonight
While your morning drive looks somewhat dry, make sure you take the rain gear, because you'll probably need it on your way home.
Clouds, along with shower and storm chances, will increase throughout the day and linger into the evening and overnight hours thanks to a cold front. We are again under a marginal risk (1 out of 5) for severe weather from the Storm Prediction Center, but just like yesterday, I'm not expecting any major impacts.
Daytime highs will top out in the mid-80s before dropping into the upper 60s overnight.
The cold front will continue to work its way through the mountains on Friday. The good news, possibly, for football fans, is that the latest model runs are trying to move the rain out earlier. We'll keep a close eye on that and keep our fingers crossed!
Regardless, it will be a dreary start to your Friday under mostly cloudy skies and continuing rain chances. Highs will be much cooler behind the front, struggling to get into the upper 70s. Overnight lows for most, as the skies start to clear out, should get into the low 60s. An upper 50-degree reading wouldn't surprise me in some of those sheltered valleys.
The sunshine will return this weekend, but the scattered rain chances stick around too. It will be MUCH cooler though. Daytime highs both days will be around 80 with overnight lows in the mid-60s.
The cooler temperature trend will continue into the new work and school week, but the scattered rain chances come along on the journey.
