Public Health Commissioner visits Camp UNITE, inspired by kids' commitment to be drug-free
Camp UNITE came to a close on Friday for more than 200 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade students.
Many students shared personal stories of how drugs have already affected their lives at a young age.
Commissioner for the Department of Public Health, Jeff Howard, spoke to kids on Thursday night about his own experience with drugs.
"My story, like many of the kids' stories we heard today, was affected by parents who were addicted to drugs," sais Howard.
Howard said that defined his youth and established his passion for medicine and public health.
"They can do whatever they want, as long as they dedicate themselves to accomplish them," Howard added.
Howard led the students through a drug-free pledge on Friday.
