Police officers unexpectedly catch escaped inmate after high-speed chase

BARBOURVILLE, Ky. (WYMT) - Barbourville Police Officers tried to stop a car Friday morning, having no idea who they would find inside.

Around 7:45 a.m, officers tried to stop a Pontiac G6 on South Main Street for several traffic violations. As they approached, the car took off at a high speed.

The chase continued onto South KY 11, then KY 1809 and then to KY 92 headed towards Bell County. That is where the driver lost control in a curve, hit the embankment and flipped.

After police arrested the two men inside the car, they learned that the passenger had just escaped the Knox County Detention Center.

Devin T. Mills, 22, of Girdler, was charged with fleeing or evading police, wanton endangerment, second-degree escape, driving under the influence, speeding, reckless driving, disorderly conduct and multiple other traffic violations.

Bobby Hamilton, 37, of Pineville, was charged with second-degree escape, fleeing or evading police, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.

Both were taken back to the Laurel County Detention Center.
