Tennessee woman arrested after infant found in freezer, per police

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Tn. (WJHL/WYMT) - A Washington County woman is charged with several felonies, including aggravated child abuse after she was seen putting her eight-month-old child in an outside freezer at home that wasn't hers.

According to an affidavit, a witness from the 100 block of Poplar Hill Drive in Johnson City saw Brittany C. Smith holding a small child next to an unused freezer in their backyard,

Two other witnesses also reported seeing Smith on the property.

Smith was eventually found under their crawl space without the child.

Later on, witnesses said they found the child in the freezer with the lid closed with about an inch of water in the bottom.

The child was taken to Johnson City Medical Center. The condition of the child is unknown at this time.
