The Bell County Coroner identified the man killed during an alleged home invasion.

Jeffery Dwayne Fuston, 27, of Pineville was taken to the state medical examiner's office in Frankfort.

The investigation is ongoing.

Original Story

Police say a man shot while allegedly trying to break into a home near Pineville has died.

Around 11 Wednesday night, Bell County sheriff's deputies were called to the home on Bradfordtown Right Road off of Highway 221.

When they got to the scene, the homeowners told deputies the suspect had been hanging out at their home when an argument broke out. We're told they then asked him to leave. The homeowners say he did, but he came back, forced his way into the home and attacked them.

Police say that's when one of the homeowners opened fire, shooting the suspect.

"The fights resulted and then the male homeowner drew his firearm and happened to discharge it in fear of his family's safety," Bell County sheriff's deputy Justin Patterson told WYMT.

We're told the man was transported to Southeast Kentucky Medical Center in Pineville where he was pronounced dead.

Officials have not identified the victim or the homeowners at this time.

Police say it is still an active investigation.
