Pikeville offering incentives to bring in business
The City of Pikeville is offering an incentives program to bring new businesses into the downtown area.
The Pikeville Main Street Program is working with new and old businesses to help foster a successful environment for restaurants and shopping.
Director Minta Trimble said the program will provide different things, based on the specifics of the business proposal.
"We're looking for restaurants and experiential retail," she said. "What that means is someplace that you can go in and maybe purchase something, and you do something while you're there."
She said Rustic Roots' art classes are a great example of that type of retail.
From rent subsidies to helping with equipment and decor, she said there are many ways the program can help.
"The incentives were created to revitalize the commercial business district," she said.
Trimble said those in the program will also help with creating a business plan for interested applicants.
"We ask for an application and we tell you then, at that time, the type of target businesses we're looking at," Trimble said. "The application will tell us if what you desire is what we're looking for."
She said the city is looking for businesses that will be available to the public after 5 p.m. and during weekends.
Trimble said anyone with an interest in being a part of the program or those who are looking for more information can email her at Minta.Trimble@pikevilleky.gov.
