Pikeville aims to bring new industry to town

PIKE COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT)- One week ago the Pikeville City Commission announced a new manufacturing company is coming to Pikeville and with it will be many new jobs.

SilverLiner is the latest company announcing their plans to build in Pikeville.

The new manufacturing company will make tanker trucks.

It is the second company to commit bringing their business to Eastern Kentucky.

"It's happening very quickly, which is a great thing," said Sean Cochran, Executive Director of Economic Development for the City of Pikeville. "We're less than a year into full, actively marketing the park through the economic development office and we already have AppHarvest and now SilverLiner."

Cochran said the city is focused on bringing in new industry to help the economy.

He believes SilverLiner is only the beginning of the potential for Pikeville and with businesses like AppHarvest coming, the Kentucky Enterprise Industrial Park could be a major site for jobs.

Officials said jobs at SilverLiner have a starting pay of 50,000 dollars.

"The business model that he has has a lot of growth potential and he wants to get up to the point to within five years employing up to 300 people," said Cochran.

As the company prepares to call Pikeville home officials want those in the area to know they should expect to see more coming.

Officials estimate it will take 18 months to build the building before SilverLiner will begin operation.
