SOUTH WILLIAMSON, Ky. (WYMT) - Pikeville Medical Center announced last week that is would be moving its South Williamson clinic to a new location in Prestonsburg.
CEO Donovan Blackburn announced Wednesday that the medical center is already working to fill the need the mobile clinic once served. He said PMC will be opening a larger clinic at South Side Mall, in the former Magic Mart building.
He said the center will offer more space and more opportunities for growth.
"It gives us the opportunity of not just planning for today, but planning for tomorrow," Blackburn said.
The wall of the old garden center will be torn down and replaced with a PMC clinic front and the entrance inside of the mall will also connect to the clinic.
Blackburn said designated parking will be available next to the clinic, allowing easier access for patients.
"The two markets we really wanted to be able to make a big splash in and to really be able to service our patients is Prestonsburg and Williamson," Blackburn said. "Today's announcement is: we will be able to do just that."
He said this clinic is a "larger investment" than the mobile clinic and he hopes it will be beneficial for the local economy by bringing more foot traffic into the mall.
"We're delighted, excited, and extremely enthused to get these things open and cut the ribbon by the end of September," he said.
Blackburn said the building is expected to open September 20.
