ELKHORN, Ky. (WYMT) - RFG Society Coffee Shop is serving coffee and collecting stories. The new coffee shop in Elkhorn City is in the perfect location for locals and tourists.
For that reason, in the few months since opening, owner Jerrica Taylor has already seen many people from across the world.
"I decided I just couldn't stand knowing that all these people were coming from overseas and stuff and I couldn't show everybody," Taylor said.
Thursday, Taylor added a new feature to her shop: a map on which customers can place a stick pin to represent where they live.
She said she wants all of her customers to not only stick a pin in the map but also leave her with a story.
One man shared with her how he has traveled the TransAmerica Bicycle Trail, which passes through the road in front of her shop - twice. Once when he was 18 years old and again in his sixties.
"He wouldn't tell me his exact age," she said. "But he was like, 'It's been a long time.' And I asked him if it changed and he was like, 'Yeah, it's changed a lot.'"
She said she hopes her coffee shop will become a destination for tourists who visit the area for hiking and whitewater sports. But, she is also happy to serve the local community.
"They love it," she said. "I like my little community and I love my little customers too."
She is now incorporating live music and other things to help the area stay entertained.
