Pike County coal operator files for bankruptcy protection

PIKE COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - A Pike County coal operator declared bankruptcy last week in U.S. District Court.

Cambrian Holding Company, Inc. filed petitions for relief under chapter 11 of the Bankruptcy Code on June 16, according to court documents.

The Appalachian News-Express reports  the company listed nearly $21 million in debt to more than 20 creditors. This includes more than $2 million to Whayne Supply and more than $1 million to AEP.

Cambrian Holding Company was approved to keep paying wages and benefits.

Multiple mining locations that operate under the company include Cambrian Coal, Apex Energy, Inc., C.W. Augering, Inc., Marshall Resources, Inc., PLM Holding Company, Bear Branch Coal, Clintwood Elkhorn Mining, Gatliff Coal, Perry County Coal, Ray Coal, Whitaker Coal, Pike-Letcher Land, Premier Elkhorn Coal, Raven Rock Development, Rich Mountain Coal, S.T. & T. Leasing, Inc., T.C. Leasing, Inc. and Shelby Resources.
