A Perry County coal company bookkeeper was indicted on federal fraud charges last week.

A grand jury indicted Sherry F. Thomas November 21, 2019, in the U.S. District Court Eastern District of Kentucky Southern Division.

According to court documents, Thomas worked for Carbon River Coal Corporation as the office manager and bookkeeper.

She is accused of writing checks to herself from CRCC's funds instead of paying appropriate taxes, and forging the CRCC vice president's signature.

Investigators say this scheme began on or about December 15, 2012, and continued until November 21, 2018.

Thomas' next court date is December 9, 2019.
