PERRY COUNTY, Ky (WYMT) - Update 7/17
In a Facebook post, Perry County Kayak Rentals say they have a new building to hold the boats and a new location.
The kayak rental location was moved to the kayak ramp by the city ballcourts on Main Street.
You can call to reserve a boat at (859)-370-9337. You can also message the Facebook page.
Rental fees will be $7 for Thursday and Friday. $12 for the weekend.
Right now they only accept cash or check. They are working on setting up card payments.
You have almost made it through the summer - county fairs, Fourth of July, vacations. Now it is almost time to go back to school, but not until you go kayaking.
Perry County will begin kayak rentals on Thursday, July 18th at 9:30 a.m. This is the second year the county has done this. Judge-Executive Scott Alexander said after adding this last year, there was no hesitation to do it again.
"We're excited about getting the kayaks back open, it's a fun activity for the people. They can float here from the city basketball courts to the boat ramp in the park. It went over extremely well last year. We just tried to make a few improvements this year to get it started. Give people something to do," he said.
Even though the summer is almost over Alexander says he is willing to listen to what the people want and keep the rentals open as long as possible, weather permitting.
Renters can hop on the river until 4 p.m and the rental fee includes a life vest and paddles. Last year the rental fee was $5. Alexander said the price is not set yet, but it will be decided soon. (We will update this article once the rental fee is set.)
