Parking spots designated for Purple Heart veterans

PIKEVILLE, Ky. (WYMT) - In Pikeville, an initiative by a local VFW chapter is helping Purple Heart veterans find parking.

VFW Post 3769 and Pikeville Medical Center teamed up to bring a special parking spot just for those veterans. The spot is on the second floor of the parking garage at the hospital.

The designated parking area is meant to function like a handicap parking spot since many of the veterans are disabled and elderly.

"You've got to be in the middle of combating so you've seen things most other humans haven't seen," said member of VFW Post 3769, Nathan Sesco.

Hospital officials say this helps honor the sacrifices those men and women made. This is the fourth Purple Heart parking spot in the city. Sesco says if there is a need, he would like to help place more around Pikeville.
