Park checked for drug activity; Sheriff comes through on campaign promise

PERRY CO., Ky. (WYMT) After a campaign of cleaning up the county newly sworn in Perry County Sheriff Joe Engle is coming through on his promises.

This past weekend Sheriff Engle and a deputy walked through the Cornettsville and Leatherwood park checking for needles and other signs of drugs.

He had been told numerous times while campaigning that locals did not feel safe going to the park because they often saw people there dealing and doing drugs.

"We're going to check that park and rid it of any kind of problems its got. It's in a rural part of the community and we want the people to know they're going to be able to use that, and we want the people who are doing things to know that can't do that there," said Sheriff Joe Engle.

The Sheriff said he is working closely with Perry County Judge-Executive Scott Alexander to install surveillance cameras at that park and others throughout the county.
