PIKEVILLE, Ky. (WYMT) - The holiday season is known as a giving time of the year. Now, Pikeville Medical Center (PMC) is making it easier than ever to give back.
"This has been a very giving community and we want to give them the mechanism to do so," said CEO Donovan Blackburn.
PMC relies on those donations to help support several projects.
"Making an investment will allow us to walk faster and sooner, Blackburn pointed out.
Tuesday the CEO, along with other PMC officials, announced a relaunch of the PMC Foundation.
"And to announce our first real campaign, which will be our upcoming children's hospital," said Blackburn.
The PMC Foundation is a nonprofit organization.
As a grandfather, the CEO said he personally relates to the struggles of many parents in our region.
"Too often, our kids have to leave the region for pretty much everything that is of an emergency type circumstances," explained Blackburn.
This is one of the many reasons this campaign will help fund treatment for some of the hospital's smallest patients.
"We have about $7 million that we are getting ready to invest in the development of the area's first children's hospital," Blackburn said.
The foundation is an avenue for anyone from local community members to corporations to give back. Officials said there will be more campaign launches in the future featuring other wings of the hospital.
