She stopped by the Whitesburg Walmart to pick up some Christmas presents, but what she wasn't expecting, is that her 14 month old would pick up some drugs.
"I didn't even know what to say... It's very shocking that that was just laying on the floor at Walmart," said Lindsey Combs, a mother of two. She and her family, including her husband, five year old son, and one year old daughter, had stopped by the Walmart to see Santa Claus, and pick up a few gifts from the lay-away. While they were standing in line, Combs said a bizarre, and terrifying event took pace.
Whitesburg police got a call late Sunday afternoon that a mother had been handed a baggie filled with an unknown substance at Walmart. "She picked it up and I told her to put it down, so she picked it up again and took it to her dad and we realized... He looked at me and said, 'Is this drugs?'" said Combs.
Unfortunately, police officials say that this kind of call is not uncommon at all. "It's not the first time this has happened," said Police Chief Tyrone Fields. "People will drop pills out of their pockets, needles out of their pocket...".
They were able to review the surveillance video, and found when the meth was dropped. Walmart was able to help with the investigation. "They have went back. They have pulled that receipt, where he picked up his lay-away, so we can actually do a name of the person that dropped it out of his pocket," said Chief Fields.
Police say they plan on filing felony charges in the case. WYMT will update this story when the suspects are identified.
