Update: Son killed, father injured in Letcher County crash

LETCHER COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT)- Kentucky State Police tell WYMT one person died in a crash in Letcher County.

They say the crash happened late Wednesday evening at the intersection of US 119 and the old 119 loop in the Payne Gap community.

The road reopened just after two on Thursday morning.

Two vehicles were involved in the crash.

Troopers say a black SUV was traveling southbound on US 119 when it crossed the center line and hit a red pickup.

Shelly Damron, 36, of Ashcamp was driving the SUV. Damron was taken to Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital along with the driver of the pickup, Craig Carter, 56, of Whitesburg. Both had non-life threatening injuries and have been released.

Craig's son Joshua Carter, 32, of Nicholasville, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Letcher County Coroner.

Police say they do not know the cause of the crash at this time. Routine toxicology results are pending.
