Officials: It could be several more days until Martin County customers have water

MARTIN COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT)- Officials with the Martin County Water District are still working to fix dozens of leaks throughout the county.

Hundreds have been without water all week long, some of them going on day five without water.

On Wednesday officials declared a state of emergency. As the rain falls on Friday the work continues and crews prepared for another 18 hour day.

Crews repaired a line that crosses the river into Kermit, West Virginia which brought relief to about 175 customers.

It seemed to be an up-hill battle for crews because as one leak is fixed, another pops up. Crew members say they are committed to restoring water to every home.

Officials say water will be turned off 7 p.m. Friday evening and will be back on at 7 a.m. on Saturday.

Officials say it could take several more days before things are back to normal.
