New Gigabit internet service comes to Hazard

HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) - As of Aug. 1, residents and businesses in the City of Hazard have access to a new Gigabit internet service.

TVS Cable and Thacker-Grigsby Communications rolled out the service called "GigaFi."

Hazard is one of few cities in the state to have this service. TVS worked for years installing fiber to the home to its existing customers in Hazard. Officials say that upgrade made this new service possible.

"It's a really fast internet service," said David Thacker, Technical Operations Manager. "It enables them to be able to work from home, operate their business out of their home. Most big cities don't have speeds of this magnitude. It really just gives them a big advantage."

Additional speed packages and prices changes are now in effect as well.
