FRANKFORT, Ky. (WKYT/WYMT) - More than 1,000 people celebrated school choice in Frankfort on Thursday.
It is part of National School Choice Week, which features more than 32,000 events across the country to show support for expanding educational options.
Representative John "Bam" Carney, a longtime public school teacher and administrator, was among the speakers at the event in Frankfort.
"Some ask, 'why do you support school choice?' and its because I support families and children. Families and children should be the ones making that decision," said Carney.
Carney has filed a bill to create a tax credit scholarship program that he says will allow students of different backgrounds and needs to make a choice as to what type of education best fits them.
Senator Ralph Alvarado has filed a companion bill in the senate.
