"More than just fun;" Corbin's Christmas Open House helps local downtown businesses

CORBIN, Ky. (WYMT) - Christmas plays a big role in many children's lives, but it also plays a huge role in local small businesses.

Each year to showcase what Corbin has to offer, the city hosts a Christmas open house.

"A lot of people are looking for something special, something unique and they do not want to go to a big store, so we are giving them that opportunity," said Owner of Moonbow Mercantile Sky Marietta.

With an open house like this, the city hopes they can bring life back to the downtown area.

"Always heard about the 'good old days' and always wanted to come back to that and it is nice helping to bring that back and make downtown a center for the community again," said Corbin's Downtown Manager Aaron Sturgill.

As kids are able to get their picture made with Santa or get a nice warm cup of hot chocolate, parents are able to do a little Christmas shopping.

"This is just that old fashion chance to shop the main street and feel like you are part of the community and part of something bigger than yourself, which I believe is the whole thing behind the Christmas season that we are all searching for," Marietta explained.

For many, this day may just mean Christmas festivities have begun but for some, it shows promise in the growth of this small community.
