Miss Kentucky stops in Hazard, tells middle schoolers to follow their dreams

HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) - Students at Hazard Middle School left their classrooms and marched to the gymnasium Tuesday morning to listen to a distinguished guest.

Katie Bouchard is the reigning Miss Kentucky and was at the school talking to students about setting and achieving goals.

Bouchard shared her own story of wanting to be Miss Kentucky since she was little and trying more than once to win the crown.

She said that she loves her job because she gets to go around the state talking with kids and showing them that no matter where in Kentucky they are from they can make a difference.

"If I can make an impact on one student I feel like that's successful. Just to be able to show kids there's such an opportunity, and yes you live in rural Kentucky, but you can do stuff here, and you can make a difference here," said Bouchard with a smile.

She took time to answer a handful of questions from students as well as officiating a push-up contest to which the winner got to wear her Miss Kentucky sash for the rest of the day.
