A man is dead following a Knox County house fire.

Charles Phipps, 33, was found dead in a burning Kayjay home off of Kentucky 225 on Thursday night.

"Once we arrived at the scene, Artemus Fire Department was already putting the fire out," said Shane Jacobs, with Kentucky State Police. "They were working on the structure fire. The fire department located a male individual inside of that residence."

Troopers say they found Phipps in the living room. Multiple investigators were on the scene including an arson investigator and a fire marshall.

"Well we at this time, we don't suspect foul play. However, we are still gaining information. Whether it's statements, evidence from the scene last night, all those samples of things we sent off and we will try to figure out if foul play did occur," said Jacobs.

Jacobs said there could be many reasons why Phipps did not make it out of the home.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Phipps' body has been taken to Frankfort for an autopsy.
